When your family dentist looks at your smile line, he or she wants to see your teeth line parallel to the top of your lower lip. Your lower gums should be in the same line as the bottom line of your lower lip. Both alignments should be correct regardless of the shape of your smile.
When checking the axial alignment of your teeth, your family dentist makes sure that your teeth are perpendicular to the center of your mouth.
